Reds Victors in Local Macron Cup Clash.

The Non-League Reds put in a strong, disciplined performance, as goals from Caleb Jones, Bobby Murphy and Matty Brown, secured a 3-0 home victory against local rivals South Liverpool and a place in the next round of the NWCFL Macron Cup.

The Reds started on the front foot and pinned the visitors back. However, on 6 minutes it was South who created the first opportunity, as Dave Parkinson in the AFC goal had to save well from a Merrifield effort. The save was to prove even more important, as AFC immediately broke away down their right and Adam Moorcroft found Caleb Jones out wide. He went on a run and fired past the keeper to give The Reds a 7th minute lead. AFC maintained their dominance and when Caleb Jones sent in a corner from the right in the 19th minute, Bobby Murphy rose and headed home an unstoppable header to double the lead. Adam Sudworth and Caleb Jones both went to close to adding to AFC's tally and 5 minutes before halftime, South's cause was made even more difficult, when they had a player dismissed for dissent. A few minutes later The Reds took advantage and scored a 3rd goal when Caleb Jones found Matty Brown who, after a delightful first touch to take him into the box, dinked it over the advancing keeper into the net.

After a fine 1st half display, The Reds took advantage of the extra man to enjoy good periods of possession, as they knocked the ball round with ease. Caleb Jones hit a shot straight at the keeper after the restart and Griffiths fired one just over for South. Adam Moorcroft had a couple of efforts, the second of which brought an excellent save from South's keeper. Substitute Aaron Cummins also had a couple of efforts from the edge of the box that were narrowly off target, but AFC couldn't extend their lead and the game ended with a dominant 3-0 success.

After the game, Assistant Manager, Carl Lancaster told us, "I thought it was a great reaction from last Friday, we wanted a reaction from the lads and we got it. They bounced back and played some lovely football. The goals were well crafted and as a collective it's one of the best performances this season".

The Non-League Reds are back in League action this Saturday at FC St Helens, 3pm kick off.
