Club Statement - Phil Stafford

AFC Liverpool are deeply saddened to announce that first team manager Phil Stafford has accepted an offer to join Burscough FC ahead of the 2026/27 season, and will thus be leaving the club.

Assistant manager Jay McShane will also be departing.

Staffo, a former AFC player and club captain, has led the Non-League Reds as manager for the last three seasons - joining ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.

In a crucial first season, Staffo oversaw a rebuild of the AFC squad following numerous significant departures, ensuring the club remained competitive in the NWCFL Premier Division.

Success and silverware came soon after, and at the conclusion of this past term, Staffo led AFC Liverpool to their first Macron Challenge Cup title. A day, and victory, that will live long in the memory of all those who travelled over to Accrington.

We would like to thank Staffo and Jay for all that they have done during their time at AFC. Their commitment, passion, and ability, have been essential in this club's continuing journey both on and off the pitch.

We wish them, and their new side, all the very best for the future.
