Reds Battle For Point at Glossop

A determined and battling performance ensured that The Non-League Reds at least brought something back from Tuesday night's long trip to Glossop North End. After two recent heavy defeats and not getting back from the Isle of Man until Sunday evening, it was a big ask to expect the lads to go again on Tuesday evening.
The home side had the first chance of the evening on 7 minutes, when a last ditch block from Jack Hinnigan denied the Glossop striker. Etia had a shot straight at Parkinson and a few minutes later Elliot Taylor fired into the side netting from a tight angle, down the other end of the pitch.
Both sides were struggling to create anything to trouble the keepers, as they battled with the uneven surface and freezing conditions. On 27 minutes Glossop crossed the ball into the area from a half cleared corner and Jordan Schofield rose well to head home and give his side the lead. Schofield went close again soon after, when his glancing header went a yard over the bar.
Whilst AFC were getting into promising positions, it was the home side that looked more likely to score again. In the last few minutes of the half, Glossop striker Ouerghi poked the ball past Parkinson, but Hinnigan was there again to deny him. Caleb Jones wasn't far off target when tried to lob the keeper from way out, just before the whistle went for half-time.
AFC flew out the blocks after the break. Liam Paton, on as substitute, played a great through ball to Elliot Taylor. He was felled just inside the box, got up and converted a 47th minute penalty, for his 25th goal of the season.

The visitors were now enjoying their best spell of the game. A Caleb Jones free-kick was easily saved by the keeper, then the keeper made a top-class save from a Liam Paton curler that was bound for the top corner. Taylor forced a save from the keeper but maybe could have squared to Caleb Jones who was unmarked in the 6 yard box.
The home side eventually got back into the half and caused problems from a flurry of corners, forcing Parkinson into a couple of saves. Matty Brown had an effort saved by Oldham in the Glossop goal and then Parkinson saved well with his feet as a Glossop attacker ran through on goal.
The home side thought they had won it when an effort cam back out after hitting the inside of the post. The game ended with both sides deservedly taking something from it.
The next game and the last game before Christmas, is against Ramsbottom United at the Berry Street Garage Stadium, this Saturday 3pm kick-off. Hope to see you there to support the lads and hopefully get some festive cheer. A quick reminder that the game after that will be on 27th December, at Litherland Remyca with a 3pm kick-off.
