Points Shared in Local Derby

ree

It was honours even as The Non-League Reds battled out a 1-1 draw with local rivals, South Liverpool at the Berry Street Garage Stadium.

The game started in atrocious conditions as the wind and rain swept across the pitch. In fairness to both teams, they did really well to make it a contest and tried their best to create what they could.

South Liverpool had the first effort of note on 15 minutes, when Hough fired straight at Ben Barnes from a good position. Caleb Jones went narrowly wide a minute later and then Paddy Davies's effort at the back post, went just over.

On 29 minutes, an AFC throw into the area was only half cleared to Caleb Jones on the edge of the box. He took a couple of touches and rifled a right-footed shot past the keeper to break the deadlock.

The visitors responded well and got themselves level just five minutes later, when Declan Gallagher rose unchallenged to head home from a South Liverpool corner. Harry Wright-Ocana had a left-footed strike from distance that wasn't too far away and the half ended all square.

Whilst the weather improved for the 2nd half, clear chances were at a premium, although the game still went from end to end in the slippy conditions. Elliot Taylor just couldn't keep his header down when he got on the end of a fine cross from the right. The visitors continued to threaten too, particularly from set pieces. The best chance of the half came towards the end of the game when it looked like Cam Rooney was going to win the game with a curling 25 yard effort, that brought a fine save from Allan in the visitors goal.

So the game ended level and credit to both sides for an entertaining game in miserable conditions.

TWO GAMES IN 48 HOURS!!

This midweek is a busy one for The Non-League Reds, with two games in quick succession. Firstly, we face a home tie against Prestwich Heys on Wednesday evening, with a 7:45pm kick-off. Its likely to be another exciting game, with the visitors sitting in 13th place in the League and having recently won at early pacesetters Padiham. Please get down to support the lads for this one if you can.

Then on Friday evening, AFC face a trip to Burscough to play City of Liverpool, where they will be hoping to avenge the first meeting between the sides this season when The Purps ran out 4-3 winners in a great battle.

MEET JAN MOLBY!!

This Saturday evening, AFC Liverpool are hosting a night with LFC Legend Jan Molby, at Wall of Fame in Formby. The evening starts at 7:30pm and will also welcome top Liverpool comedian Gary Skyner. Tickets can be purchased on this website in the Buy Tickets section or speak to one of the Board. It should be a fantastic night and hopefully bring some much needed funds to the Club.
