Pre-Season Win in Wales

Updated: Jul 8

Caleb Jones and Elliot Taylor started pre-season as they finished last season, with a goal apiece, as The Non-League Reds recorded a hard fought 2-1 victory against Newtown AFC.

The home side were celebrating their 150th anniversary and there was a festival atmosphere before the game and both sides put on a decent spectacle for the crowd. Newtown, with two friendly wins in the bank already, started the game well and dominated possession without causing to many problems for a well organised AFC Liverpool defence. Dave Parkinson in goal bossed his area well and dealt with any threats from balls into the area. As the half progressed AFC started to counter attack more but the half ended goalless.

The deadlock was broken on about the hour mark, thanks to a good finish over Parko's head. Less than 5 minutes later and following good battling by Taylor, Caleb Jones struck a brilliant curling shot from the right side of the area, that started out wide of the goal but swerved back in to hit the back of the net.

With 7 minutes to go AFC were awarded a penalty, when Elliot Taylor was brought down. Taylor got back up and slotted confidently home from the spot to ensure the lads started pre-season with a win. Overall, it was a great run out for the Team. A mixture of players from last season and a handful of trialists will definitely have benefited from getting those minutes into their legs.
